Biography

Genji Qin

Research Focus:
My research group is dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying plant organ plasticity and development, with a focus on soybean and Arabidopsis thaliana. By employing cutting-edge molecular genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques, we aim to unravel the regulatory networks controlling plant organ development and their adaptability to environmental changes.
Major Achievements:
1. Cloned and characterized multiple key genes regulating plant organ development, including TCP, EXB1, TIE1, and TEAR1, which play critical roles in leaf morphogenesis, branching, pistil development, and seed formation.
2. Elucidated the intricate interactions among transcription factors, transcriptional regulators, and E3 ubiquitin ligases, providing novel insights into the molecular basis of plant organ plasticity.
3. Discovered new functions of the TCP transcription factor family, significantly advancing the understanding of this important gene family and laying a theoretical foundation for molecular design breeding in crops.
Publications:
Authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals, including Nature Communications, Molecular Plant, Science Advances, Advanced Science, Plant Cell, PNAS, Cell Research, and New Phytologist. These works have been cited more than 5,000 times, reflecting their impact on the field.
Academic Contributions:
Co-translated two classic textbooks, Plant Biology and Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, contributing to the education of plant science in China. Serve as Vice Chair of the Plant Structure and Reproductive Biology Committee, Botanical Society of China, and Council Member of the Beijing Society of Plant Biology.
Future Directions:
My research group will continue to explore the mysteries of plant growth and development, with a particular focus on improving key agronomic traits in soybean through domestication and genetic engineering. These efforts aim to support world food security strategies and contribute to sustainable agriculture.

Research Interests

My group is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of plant developmental biology, with a focus on deciphering the molecular regulatory networks underlying plant organ plasticity and their applications in agriculture. Using soybean and Arabidopsis as model systems, my group integrate molecular genetics, biochemistry, and multi-omics technologies to unravel the core transcriptional regulatory principles and molecular mechanisms governing plant organ plasticity. A key aspect of my research involves the molecular domestication of critical agronomic traits in soybean, aiming to decode the genetic basis for synergistically enhancing environmental adaptability and yield. These efforts are designed to contribute to world food security and the sustainable development of agriculture.
